The Monkey Head Media Stream application captures Internet radio streams (Shoutcast, Icy and X-Stream Radio) and records them to disk in an MP3 audio file format. Audio tracks can be separated into individual MP3 files in real-time or one large MP3 file can be created. Thousands of stream addresses can be acquired at Shoutcast. Simply download and open a ".pls" file and extract the stream address. Just paste the stream address in the Monkey Head Media Stream application and press record to capture MP3 files. See the documentation at the home page for more information. http://www.monkeyheadsoftware.com This application works best with broadband. Dial up users should user lower bit rate streams (96kbs and below). Please rate this code.

Well, it works (aside from forcing me to pick the root of a drive) nicely. I assume the way you chose to separate your code into only header files and not header/source pairs is due to the compiler you were using (VC++ 6). Overall pretty nice, thanks for sharing =)

Thanks for sharing your opinion and observations! I will fix that directory bug tonight. There seems to be a problem with saving files to system directories due to some buggy validation function. You can save files to any directory not within a system directory or "My Documents".

As far as not splitting my declarations and code into headers and cpp files... Well, I was just being lazy and I kinda like being able to see the declarations and code in a single view as well. It's not very academic, but functional :-)

Also, I was getting a lot of email saying it didn't work, but people were trying real audio and other stream types. I stuck that shellexecute in to redirect to a page with a few sample stream URLs.. You can take that out if you wish.

Regards,

Sean

The directory validation bug has been fixed. MP3 files can now be saved to any directory including the "My Documents" directory. A single line change was made to the "ValidateFilePathDir" function located in the spmWindows.h file. Thanks for the feedback! The custom GUI include can be reused in your applications to make bitmap based GUIS without using common controls.

I was quite pleased to come across this, especially after sifting through the various archaic net-casting libraries out there. I'm guessing -like the rest of us - that you probably don't have the time to turn this into a streamimg player, but incorporating a non-dll based MP3 decoder would be a novel addition.
