When writing a media playback system, it's good to be able to have various different formats of playlist file to make your player more versatile. However, this can soon become a nightmare trying to figure out how to manage the different formats. In this solution, by using an Interface (IPlaylist), many classes which implement this Interface can share their data to the user by also implementing a base class (PlaylistEntry) for storing such things as title, artist, file location, etc. This makes the code more modular and its implementation much neater and simpler. This solution supports the most four common playlist format including: XSPF (Vlc), WPL (Windows Media), PLS and M3U (both Winamp). Apart from PLS and M3U, the core of the playlist manager is XML serialization/desearialization and took me a long time to get right. Word of caution: because XML is CASE sensitive, make sure that the input of the XML playlists are written in the correct case or it will fail to load. As it took me a long time to work out how to serialize XSPF and WPL, please be kind and throw a few encouraging comments and a vote or two at me. Happy coding :)

For your own safety, please:
  1. Re-scan downloaded files using your personal virus checker before using it.
  2. NEVER, EVER run compiled files (.exe's, .ocx's, .dll's etc.)--only run source code.

If you don't have a virus scanner, you can get one at many places on the net including:McAfee.com
