This is an interesting little hack you have here. Although, I would think there must be much better ways of implementing a drop-down button menu. This technique seems to take up a lot of time, and causes a really messy transition: buttons move around, a scroll bar shows up temporarily, and the slow painting causes parts of the buttons to remain invisible for a good portion of a second. What I would try differently is create or destroy the buttons in code when necessary rather than placing them all on the form during design mode and using tacky techniques for hiding or showing them, and start working with control arrays.
