I searched around here for a LONG time to find out how to scroll Bitmaps. With my code, You can do just that with Direct X... This can be used in creating games like... Civilization, Since it randomly generates a map from a tileset. You can use the Keypad (up,down, left, right) to move the map. Try this out, and if you like it, Vote HIGH.

I dont know how interested you'll be in the code I have to offer - I made some code for scrolling tiles in DX7 a while back... Goto www.geocities.com/thegilb/ and download the CDXVB7SDK... Well, I also posted a file from my latest game engine... A dll which performs clipping written in C++. It allows you to achieve some great frame-rates because clipping can be incredibly time consuming when you have to clip 1200 tiles (640*480 with 16*16 tiles)!

The file is www.geocities.com/thegilb/Clipping.zip

Hope it helps

I like how smooth it is! (Not being familar with game or Dx7 programming). I thought this was cool. Esp. being able to go horizontal using the Up and Left or Right buttons simultaneously.

Cool stuff!

I just submitted "Board Game Construction Kit" which has a similar scrolling engine -- but it was really choppy. After looking at your code, I found that I didn't neet to have my main blit loop in a timer -- just put a DO loop around it and it becomes lightning quick! Thanks!
