(About the author)

This WEB application was developed with the intention to demostrate the flexibility of ASP (without the .NET) and the possibility to create development frameworks that can be used again and again giving to ASP development a very interesting twist. Using just ASP and JavaScript it is possible to create complex user interfaces (as you may already know) that will resemble the look and feel of windows application: Rich functionality GUI controls, Data binding, No Java applets, No ActiveX and great functionality, 100% client-server application over the internet. This is just a "DEMO" a prototype nothing else should be assumed. I had developed a full version of this program and many others and if you want to know about the techniques used to develop this small sample application don't hesitate and contact me: WToledo@hexcel.com Again, this is just a small DEMO of a System Issues application there is a lot you should not expect from it. Thanks to all the PSC developers that over the time had submitted their work for us to exploit their great ideas, there is too much to thank them for all the material I had used to create this program. IMPORTANT!!!!!!! Works only with IIS 5 and IE 5.5 or 6, will not work with Netscape

I can recomend many titles, look for those published by WROX or SAMS or SIBEX almost all are very good, but don't relay on the books only there is a lot you can learn on your own, research and experimenting are the best teachers I got so far...

very nice 5 globes, I am new to ASP programming I am a VB Deleveper and I didnt even know that applications like this were possible in ASP. I love it.

I do have 1 issue with the code. I kept getting the error: Object doesn't support this property or method: 'execute' . I set the permisson on the web folder to execute and I was still getting the error. so what I did was change the 'XPMenu.htm' file to 'xpmenu.inc' and replaced the line in the asp pages of: <%server.execute "xpmenu.htm"%> With: and I haven't had a problem yet, the code runs smooth. please let me know if doing it this way will cause problems in the future. other then that I love this code and may possibly use this as a guide line in creating web applications in the future. Thank you.

John, will not cause any problem, the reason why I state that is only conpatible with IIS 5 (windows 2k) is because I use Server.execute on few lines and II4 doesn't support it

es.tooltip != undefined debugger stops at this line. The application goes beserk and I have to kill it by either stopping the web server or killing IE 5. Op system = Win 2000

The ideal browser is 6 but should not have any problem with 5.5, will not work on 5 or earlier versions of IE

9/23/2002 12:33:12 PMWilliam Toledo

That is the reason for that error...
(I guess)

The idea is great, resulting in a very clean look and feel. Without some sort of graceful error handling, detection of browser or alternative method of display, you would have to be very careful on the environment you deploy this on.

9/24/2002 12:24:25 PMWilliam Toledo

Yes, ofcourse there is need for a real error trapping and browser detection that if you intent to use it in an open environment like the internet. But I did not intent this to be full and finished aplication, just a sample of some techniques to produce clean and neat user interfaces...
Thanks for your comments.

I liked the design, but I could not get it to work. I am using IE 6.0, but when I run the application it went to continous iteration calls. The seems calling the issue_main.asp and header.asp alternatively. I am new to ASP and not sure how to solve the problem. Help is very much appreciated.

Hi! Good day!
Very nice coding! keep up the good work.
Question: is it compatible in win98SE then i use PWS because there have an error undefined debug but i try to use in win2k OS there's no have a problem.Pls. give me some Idea.thanks.
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

8/5/2004 2:05:54 AMWilliam Toledo

Joel, this was already reported before. Troblem is not with the OS but with the version of your IE, remeber this runs only on IE 5.5 or above. Your Win98 probably have an old version of the IE. There is no problem with the 2K becuse 2K has installed IE 5.5 by default
