Is your error not because you don't have write access to the database? Look at the file permissions on the server...

Dear Friends,
Thanks for using and evaluating EASY FORUMS. I have tested the project on MS PWS and IIS 4.0 and have found the same to be devoid of errors.

I urge you to check if proper permissions are enabled on server, and if the datasource name is in order.

Thanks.

Hi there,

I think you can do one thing to enable common login for both your website and the messageboard:

When your website authenticates your customer and allows him access to your page, then you use that same cookie(the one you set during the main login) to check the authentication in messagebiard.
What I mean is if, he is logged into your website and say you set a cookie 'login=yes' then check for the 'login' cookie in the message board. You would have to play around with my code a bit to change the cookie names etc.

Hope this helps,
Puneet.

Hi Puneet,

I'm going to write in guest access to the board. As for reading a cookie, since I've already added a global asa, I merely need to check the variable I've already added:
session("uname")

After I authenticate the user name & password, I declare that session("uname") = RS("uname")

If session("uname") becomes equal to "" on any of the pages, I merely send them to the error page that writes the appropriate message.

I assign this variable upon login, and it gives the script the ability to greet the user, as well as to make sure the user posts messages with their own name. It also allows us to determine if the user has his/her cookies enabled, as a session variable works only if the user has his browser cookies turned on.

If I get time, I'll add some no-cookie technology.

It'll work now. Some yahoo[I won't look in the mirror] forgot to add the query string attachment to the showmain.asp hyperlink, hence the error message when trying to access the showmain.asp page from the register.asp page after you've registered.

I've also just added guest access.

My last changes will be to add a pop-up window to preview a new message or reply to message, and edit & delete ability for the messages to the person who posted the message, as well as the administrator.
