After getting great reviews on the previous version, I finally got time to do the rewrite that I promised everyone. This code allows you to easily create lists of your data with pagination, sorting, and filtering. The end result is a very nice layout of your data. You choose which fields come back (an the captions for each one in the header). Choose which fields are searched. Setup the default field that is sorted when visitor first views page. Now supports databases with list ordering. This time I have included a database so it should work as soon as you add the files to your website.

Hello Sir!

I think your 2.0 is truly some pretty awesome stuff!
But I haven't been able to test it out due to an error that arrose:

Microsoft VBScript runtime (0x800A01F4)
Variable is undefined: 'ADODB'
/search/inc/clsdatabase.asp, line 901

I tried somethings but alas I cannot fix it. (Some day...some day) anyway I created a subdir called search anunzipped the content then ran the default.asp and gotten that error.

Hope you can assist me (us).

Friendly greetings from The Netherlands.
Jos Krause.

Ack! the type library must be missing. I usually put this line in my Global.ASA file, but you can put it as the first line in clsDatabase.asp. I'll post an updated zip file when I get home from work this evening.

I am sorry to disturb you once again. But another error was presented by me:

Microsoft VBScript runtime (0x800A000D)
Type mismatch: 'msSearchFieldAry'
/search/Inc/clsDatalist.asp, line 132

Maybe if you are willing we could go trough the code in 1 time to see why it doesn't run on my machine and it does on yours?
You can always contact me on ICQ (16478641) Or irc would be fine and mail ofcourse ;)

I so want to see your system in action!

Joseph.

Thanks for the help guys! I installed this on my computer at work and found those same errors and fixed them. I uploaded the fixed version. Let me know if you have any more problems. :)

Third times a charm? It worked on the computer at work (might be a vbScript version that handles dynamic arrays differently?). I got home and was welcomed with another report of an error. Well, I downloaded the code and sure enough, I had the same error. Fixed and uploaded. Enjoy!

Downloaded new code (which didn't seem to have any changes) and still have the same error (type mismatch line 175 in datalist.asp). Maybe your upload didn't work properly.

Thanks for sharing this with us. I can tell you this code does work with no real problems. Thanks for keeping it up to date. Now I just need to figure it all out and see what you have here. It is well organized code that takes a little getting used to. Thanks for the hard work. I definately appreciate it.

Lewis:

RE: Sorted Record Listing with Search V2.0
Using version downloaded on 11-APR-01

After unzipping the files, when I click
on default.asp the app loads into
InterDev, but when attempting to view
in browser nothing happens. Is there
something on my computer that needs
to be set for this?

This also happens when I attempt to
open default.asp from the browser.

Thanks,
Jeret

Jeret - You need to put this code on a web server that is capable of executing ASP pages. Make sure your link in the browser begins with http:// and not file://

Hi,
I tried to choose an SQL Server smalldatetime field for searching but it doesn't work. I'd like to view all records having the same date. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

It looks wicked - and runs with no errors - however ... it doesn't do anything? Click on the page numbers or from the drop down list and it stays at page 1, clicking on the other field headings to sort also does nothing ... any thoughts ... am i being stoopid? ... is there something else needed to be setup before it works?

Sorry, was me - not looking hard enough ... basically for anyone else here having trouble with this excellent script, when accessing it through the browser make sure it reads e.g: http://localhost/datalist/default.asp?Query=gb and NOT http://localhost/datalist/?Query=gb or the script doesn't function! Good work Lewis!

any idea when you'll make this XML based? I am new to programming and would prefer to work in XML for the database instead of access or sql.
