worse than ever. this version seems to be more unstable than previous ones -- it's falling all over the place. i think you guys are beating on a dead horse. my advise is to start from scratch but do it with usercontrols. it's very hard to get a proper behavior of VB Forms "sited" with SetParent -- trust me!

just my $.02 worth,

This is just awesome. I have been looking for something like this for a while. I tried creating something similar using a custom control and picture boxes. This is much nicer.

Look Vlad Has Every Right To Say What He Wants. That’s Fine (I Thank Him For His Comments).

What Isn't Fine Is Other People Having A Go At Other People.

If You Want To Criticize Someone For Their Comments Do It Somewhere Else.

PSC Must Not Be Used As A Forum For Insults And Silly Petty Arguments.

Vlad,

I'd be interested in the problems you seem to be having with the control as it has been tested extensively with NT and Windows Me (not the best I know) without any problems.

Is it possible to save all the user positions, states, sizes etc. and recreate the user's last layout when the program starts next? If so, could you give a small example of how that can be accomplished?

Looking really nice. But you still need to be able to dock windows to the panel without creating the tabbed interface. The tabbed interface shouldn't be automatic but instead optional by dragging the form over a certain portion of a docked form. Otherwise it should dock as it previously did. Just my thoughts. 5 globes.

Also in response to the quesiton about remembering positions, use the persistant property however it apparently needs some fixing. If you have an undocked window and persistant is at false it will crash. Something for you two to fix up :)

well, you've probably checked this commercial attempt - http://innovasys.co.uk/products/dockstudioxp.asp. as far as i know their products is a VB created control. they had a lot of problems but slowly and painfully debugged the "monster".

i like the idea of a docking framework in VB. maybe at this stage tabdock needs more kind of a stabilizing release. the new features are neat but there are troubles with the foundation, IMHO.

i'm sorry about my previous probably a bit abrupt remark -- nothing personal! :-))

cheers,

p.s. ... and 10x for keeping the spirit of PSC

Nice work, really great. But I Still have one problem. After compiling the project into an ocx, I keep getting errors when closing miy application. In one off my docked forms I use a dsn less database connection. On closing my MDI Form the tabdock control is trying to run the form load routine in my docked form. This generates errors. Could anybody help me??
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

6/20/2003 4:08:14 AMNeal Rushforth

I've identified the cause of the form_load problem, and this and other bugs will be fixed in the next release.

WOW... impressive!
A MINOR bugs i notices while playing with in on Win2k. let me see if i can describe it... the toolbar on the left is unpinned, (when it hides) and you select another tool bard to drag over the left toolbar, that drag pic leaves what i can best call a cursor turd... graphics drawn in the left side when it maximized...

As Vlad has said , Innovasys products are , as far as I know , developed in VB. I've used DocStudioXP and it's having too many features in it. Really I request NR/GN not to incorporate those many features in your OCX. Please leave something for me to do as well ! :)

Your current version is nice one. I faced one problem though ; dont know whether it's my VB 6.0 IDE problem or what.

After few run of the program using your control , I get "ActiveX Component Can't create Object" and program doesn't move further. I need to re-reference the component and it goes well. I have tried re-register the component and still facing the same.

What can be the problem ? I couldn't figureout. It's not only on my PC but on every PC on which I installed (through setup made from Pack & Deploy Wiz) my program.

If you can guide me , I'll be very thankful to you.

Ruturaj.

I am having trouble builing the exe. I get a "path not found" error. Does anybody have any ideas on how I should build it? Should I build the OCX first, then reference it as a component? Or should I do a group build? Thanks, 5 Globes from me!

I'd agree with Vlad. It's a bit unstable. Once it gets an error and you haven't saved, you're gonna curse for a while. Without the bugs, it'd be nice.

In VS.NET, when unpinned and the mouse is over the bar, the displayed form should appear floating, i.e. no resizing on the other object. Is there a way to do that with this control?

In vb ide debugging mode if I minimize the main mdi form where are docked child forms the application and vb ide close up. If I hide a tabbed form (from the appropriate button) and I put mouse cursor on the area previously accupated by the docked form the mdi form lost focus and goes under the main vb ide form!! This bugs make your control not suitable at all!

I'm sticking with TabDock2 by Silva. This new version is pretty, but it's also very buggy. I can't use something this unstable . The demo does not work as shown in the screen shot. The application flickers. There are transparent spots between windows where I can see the application behind it, and it leaves artifacts on the screen even after closing the application. No way is this a 5.
