4/18/2003 8:02:24 AMMichael Canejo

I was just reading through the comments and by the looks of it, some people are voting based on the whole project rather the changes this author made. Which gives me an idea to resubmit this with more docking enhancements O_O.

Oh I voted on ackbars because his changes to the original code were significant, these are not. I can tell AckBar is a little envious, but I can't blame him.
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/18/2003 8:08:56 AMMichael Canejo

I was being sarcastic in the above post about resubmitting this project just so the flamers don't jump to conclusions. I'd rather upload it to Ackbar privately and have a credit somewhere to me, that's not too much to ask for. I wouldn't go the whole 9 yards and resubmit it because then we'd all have 10 TabDocks with different versions by different authors. Psc is messy enough.

4/18/2003 9:51:44 PMMArio Flores G

yeap :)who is the original autor by the way?
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

Marcile. Just search for tabdock. It's version 1.6 is what all the mods are based upon.
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/19/2003 6:00:22 AMJC

Why don't people look at the revisions rtf.

It displays all the history of this control.

I give it a super star 5.
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/19/2003 4:44:01 PMAckbar

But it displays an utter lack of credit in the description and that is wrong. People who helped with it deserve the credit. Not to mention 2 tabdocks in the same month is just plain dumb.
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/19/2003 6:03:56 PMAckbar

Also you got a serious bug. If there's an app in front of the app with tabdock the app with tabdock will periodicly flip itself in front. This one has to be revised before it can be even useful.
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/21/2003 9:19:33 AMAndre Moraes

excelent, work. I think that this dock also can be used to save some code rewriting creating forms that do not need to be a control and load this same form in diferent views in your program. But to do that It'll be good to have one form that the alignment, the dock, can be like a mdi child but in a mdi child already like but a instance of your control in a mdi child and from that you start loading the docks at left, at the top (also why not have 2 docks on top but one below the other not at any side? - this also it'll be good) and finally one dock it'll be in the center screen getting all the rest of the available space like the mdi main view can do it with the childs... but it'll be in the child already. This can be very usefully and it'll be better because you don't need to put all the code in the mainform.

Great! Finally someone makes a control that creates docking sections on a MDI form. Keep up the good work!
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/21/2003 8:46:56 PMMichael Canejo

Hey chateau d''if, this control was modified and resubmitted, it was not created by this author. This is one of many examples of fools who vote on something they have no clue about or bother to find it's origin. Visit AckBar's tabdock submission, the REAL credits are there unline this particular author

4/22/2003 4:38:12 AMP Kingsley

Hey Michael Canejo.

Yes you are correct.

It was not created by this author.
But if you look at Ackbars COMMENTS
he says:
'You may modify and repost this code.'

I Looks like he shot himself in the foot.

And if you look at the revisions file it gives the history there.

This author has not changed any of the help about credits.

I've been following Tabdock for a while now and to be honest Ackbar hasn't made that much of a change anyway.

Simplistic subclassing And thats about it!

At least this version has a bit more style and thought put into it.

So before you start shouting off, And calling everyone that's voted on this a fool. You should sit back for 5 mins and read descriptions correctly.

(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/22/2003 3:54:13 PMAckbar

Actually I made a lot more changes than this guy, and neal made a lot more. But I also said distribute it but leave appropriate credit which is lacking except a file which few read. Neal is the one who deserves the most credit in reality next to the original author. And though I gave permission to redistribute you still have to give credit to marcile which he totaly and utterly lacks. You are all fools and you are as well.
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

He's a fool because he just said

4/23/2003 3:46:59 AMMichael Canejo

"Great! Finally someone makes a control
that creates docking sections on a MDI
form. Keep up the good work!" which is clearly not true. Maybe you should learn to read descriptions more closely because you've just proved you can't.
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/23/2003 4:36:23 AMP Kingsley

I must say sorry to Micheal Canejo.
You are totally right.

Ackbar:

I shouldn't complain about lack of credit given.

I didn't see you giving any credit to the other authors in the code!

You may have given credit in your submission description but that's about it!

It seems to me that you just simply jealous.

4/23/2003 4:38:33 AM

This discussion is getting far too heated. I have made a few changes to this control as anyone who has read the revisions.rtf will know. Gary made some changes, which I think have helped make this control slicker than it was before.

Just be grateful that people are amending the code, and still distributing it for free.

4/24/2003 1:22:55 AMAckbar

The problem is I uploaded first and was actually looking for a chance to possibly win an award. You destroyed my chance by resubmitting what I already submitted. You left me no real credit, even went as far as to make it sound like I wasn't involved with your description, and I don't appreciate it.
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/24/2003 1:23:22 AMAckbar

Further more I gave appropriate credit to everyone in everything. My name wasn't even in the about box but instead marcile. I took credit for what I modified and that was it.
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/24/2003 9:44:38 AMNeal Rushforth

Ackbar,

You said you were actually looking forward to winning an award, when you previously stated that a lot of the credit after Marclei, should go to myself. Therefore if anyone should win the award it should be me.

Lets leave it at that shall we and concentrate on improving the control.
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/24/2003 3:04:25 PMPROBRO

it was posted first by ackbar. the other two guys just reposted with changes. any1 could steal a good project that has potential to witn and do the same. the voters don't know any better. the original author should win the reward. the resubmitted entry MUST get deleted by the moderators.
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/24/2003 4:15:26 PMAckbar

I dont deny you deserve a lot of credit neal but so do I. If it wasn't for me the control would of never even been resorected, and it would still have that bug in it which made it pretty much useless. You've done a lot but so have I. This new guy's done pretty much nothing, yet he's taking all the real credit. Further more this version is soo suverely bugged it's not even funny. Now the great thing is I've fixed the one most important bug but you don't see me releasing it. Don't count on getting it either. Cause you are obviously not the friend I thought you were.
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/25/2003 4:46:28 AMFred Runthorpe

Ackbar:

I think Gary's done more than you think.
You added some subclassing (????).

Gary made the control much more easier on the eye, implemented some excellent features and got rid of some of your bugs!

So as to say this guy has done 'Pretty Much Nothing' is such a lie.

Congratulations to Neal and Gary for an excellent control.

(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/25/2003 5:24:16 AMNeal Rushforth

Ackbar,

I have been developing this control on and off for the past year.

How do you think it got the following;

Customisable Captions
Side Captions
Collapsing/Expanding Panels (some credit for this goes to Marclei, who sent me a WIP of his Tabdock 1.7 before he went AWOL)
Maximised Docked windows

Gary has added the following to the project
fixed some of the bugs
improved the splitter
added the collapsed Panel captions
improved the docked forms maximised and close buttons

The bug you identified has been fixed by myself and Gary and we will be uploading this in the next day or so.

If you don't want to share thats your choice, but surely the point of this code is that it is free and we all want to share in its development.
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/25/2003 6:24:09 PMMichael Canejo

Neal,

I'd give you alot more credit if your re-entry of this tabdock was based on an original version by the original author and not a update on AckBars submission. I hope both submissions get accepted as code of month, and if they do it's going to be quite silly that two are based on the same submission, Couldn't you have waited till next month.. i mean really, it seems almost rude to have done this while AckBar was at the top. Just my opinion anyway.
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/26/2003 1:24:25 AMAckbar

But in uploading this as michal said you were just plane rude. You coulda waited a month and had your chance but now you ruined my chance and that was not kind.
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/26/2003 11:33:53 AMMTGiga

I agree with the above two, but great code. I've been looking for this for a long time.
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/26/2003 12:40:19 PMNeal Rushforth

Michael,

Let me get something straight. The version posted by Ackbar was the version I had given to him with my changes to his last submission on Planet Source code over a year ago. Therefore he was actually submitting his old entry with changes of mine. Secondly the 2.4 version he also has there at the moment is further changes made by myself, not Ackbar.

If you care to read the revisions.rtf you will see how many of the changes are mine. (quite significant ones).

Myself and Gary re-submitted the project because the last version of Tabdock (2.5) never got posted by Ackbar and we felt we should share this rather than keep it to ourselves.
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/26/2003 12:50:34 PMNeal Rushforth

One more thing. We didn't enter this to win any coding contest. Submitting code onto Planet Source Code to only win awards defeats the whole point of the site. It is for people to share code however small or large, not because they are only interested in winning an award.

Lets here some positive things about the control and ideas on how we can improve it/bugs that need fixing (hope theres not too many of those)
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/26/2003 6:26:41 PMAckbar

Neal the submission I made of 2.4 was not just changes by you. I fixed the bug which made it so the undocked windows could be resized again, and I added the feature so the windows could be resized properly. So don't give me that you did it all. I thought you were a friend, apparently I was totaly and utterly wrong.
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/27/2003 4:57:30 AM

Master!

In the comments I read that I'm not the only one who has been looking for
the TabDock functionality in VB. Before I used the coolbar control to make
dockable windows but the effect is not as sleak as the TabDock control. My
sincerest compliments for the code. It 's great.

However I have some questions and I hope that you can help me.

1) I want to change the position (left, right etc.) in the source code after
the add command. A logic syntax would be
TabDock2.DockedForms("Form1").align=tdAlignTop). But I did not find such a
functionality.

2) Sometimes VB crashes on the control. First a error message "Run time
error 0" is displayed followed by a fatal error of VB. Should I buy a new
computer or is this a known problem?

Happy coding,

Terence Vehmeyer
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/27/2003 4:32:10 PMNeal Rushforth

Ackbar,

You did indeed pass me a fix for the resizing of windows, but by your own admission you said it was sloppy.

The fix in 2.4 is my fix and not the one you sent me. Check the code!!

NR/GN, just a simple question really. Do you guys plan on posting a newer version in near future fixing any bugs reported over the past month? Curious.
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/30/2003 1:52:10 AMAckbar

See I don't even mind him submitting it. But I was having a good chance of winning code of the month which though not the reason for submitting is a nice thing. But they kinda ruined it. All they woulda had to do is wait a month then I wouldn't of cared.
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/30/2003 4:25:41 AMNeal Rushforth

PROBRO,

I can honestly say that the people who are voting for this code are not known to me at all, and I'm sure they can say the same.

If you prefer the original entry that's fine (as 2.4 is mostly changes by me, therefore I cannot steal my own code).
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/30/2003 10:19:47 AMPROBRO

Neal, You can justify ur post however you want but you know that what you did isn't right. Everything is free on PSC but grabbing a monhtly winning entry, making some flashy changes to it and then resubmitting it in the same month is just totally WRONG.

He updated the original post with your recommended changes. This should be appreciated. You previosuly justifed your posted entry by saying that he wasn't taking ur recommended changes so u had to post it yourself. Now you are saying that the 2.4 version has your coding changes anyway. Good player you are... You might win this but you are not a winner. You are still just the opposite.
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/30/2003 12:31:56 PMNeal Rushforth

PROBRO,

Firstly read the revisions.rtf of Tabdock 2.4.

Ackbar hasn't made any changes to this control since 2.1/2.2. The version he posted was 2.3 and 2.4. Both of which were changes made by me. (quite significant ones).

Therefore his winning monthly entry, as you put it, is really mine..

(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/30/2003 2:20:50 PMAckbar

I have made changes since then I just don't always include them in the changes.rtf neal so just go to hll. You are obviously not as cool as I thought.
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/30/2003 2:30:51 PMAckbar

Oh and more over you are pretty much denying credit completly to the one guy who absolutly deserves the most. I've made changes yes, you've made changes absolutly, but he made the control. Marcile deserves the real credit and his name appears in my description as it should but here his name is not showing up at all. You claim oh it's in the changes.rtf, thats wonderful, half the people here will never read it. Make the guy who deserves all the props known and stop taking all the d@mn credit!
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/30/2003 4:04:11 PMNeal Rushforth

Ackbar,

I am not taking credit for the project, merely the changes I have made, and likewise Gary.

Marclei does indeed deserve the real credit, I agree. This has never been removed from any of the code. Without his contribution none of this would have been possible.

The latest version we have reworked the example, but Marclei is still credited in all code and the About dialogue.

You claim to have made changes, but the version you have on your entry is a straght copy of the 2.4 version I sent you, which has been on my machine for a good number of months, therefore any changes you may have made are not present in the release you are offering.
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

5/2/2003 4:15:17 AMAckbar

Perhaps so but I still did some changes. So I do deserve more credit than you are giving me. As far as I'm concerned that makes you a thief. I quite prominently display your name in the version I uploaded and feel you deserve credit and do give it to you. You on the other hand are not doing the same.
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

5/2/2003 5:45:19 AMGary

These comments are getting very boring.

Ackbar:
Yes you do deserve a lot of credit.
And I hold my hand up and say sorry for not giving it.

I Will also hold my hand up and say sorry to Marclei for not mentioning his name either.

If it wasn't for him this control would be non existant.

Now can we all put this behind us and get on with making the control better.

(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

5/3/2003 3:25:26 AMAckbar

Yes now that you have said that I am ok. I think everyone can get a little annoyed when they don't at least recieve credit for their work. It's a small request :)

...but:
Key shortcuts to the menu of the mdi parent won't be triggered if a docked form has the focus - like in then

6/12/2003 1:45:30 PMCode-Breaker

Someone a little ways up made an excellent comment. If you are afraid of others taking credit for your work, don't give out the source. That solves that problem. BTW, I haven't looked at the control.

Are we interested in improved code, or praise? If you want better code, submit here. If you want praise, send the compiled control to your mother. (I mean that light-heartedly).

Ackbar, maybe your right. But the people who care about credit will take the time to notice who did what. Those who don't wouldn't have bothered to find out anyway.

What would be really cool is if the menu could dock and undock. I'm switching to .NET and in .NET, this is any prorerty you could find in the MSDN without searching it on the Internet. As I said, in your next tab dock, add a docking menu!

The only problem with this code, is that it's way too hard to import to our own programs. I mean, we could use it as a code snip it...

People, sorry my bad english
But let me tell you something about development
When I first upload TabDock in this web site
I was not aware that this control would become
One of the best download options
Neither it would receive an award
This prove one thing
When we have people working together
Joining experiences and efforts devoted to a simple matter
The results can be so amazing that we can not forsee
I'm very proud to see the way the control is nowadays
The credits goes to everyone who has dedicated time and efforts in improving the control
including those who have just downloaded it and tested it up
Nothing can pay such satisfaction
Continue this good work
Keep this code free
Everyone deserves to learn with TabDock and improve projects of their own
Everybody wins, nobody looses
No matter who lauched the idea
What really matters is to keep the idea alive
Best regards from Brazil

The way the control is nowadays it really deserves such award...
I am very proud to see the efforts of many in order to have a stable and amazing control...
The idea of the "open code" demonstrate how many of us can get by simply trusting in others experiences and efforts...
Keep on the good work...
You are one of the fathers of this project
I still remember our contacts when Tabdock was still just another control...
Thank you

Would be nice to see someone manage to make this control as an IDE plugin and have it do this to the code windows like .NET does (the only feature i have found that i liked bout the platform)
