an easier method than reading in to a temp file (and deleting it) would be to use the stat function. I kludged together an example from something I had in an old script.

#######################################
#!c:/perl/bin/perl -w

my $file = "C:\\Docume~1\\Shakur\\MyDocu~1\\KylieAdvert.mpeg";
my $size = (stat($file))[7];
my ($fsize, $unit);

if ($size > 1048576)
{
$fsize = $size / 1048576;
$unit = "MB";
} else {
$fsize = $size / 1024;
$unit = "KB";
}

print "Filesize is: " . sprintf("%.2f", $fsize) ." $unit.\n";
########################################

I do like the insightfulness of your script however. Keep up the good work.

Perl has a built-in for getting file sizes:

print (-s $filename) .
