PackMon is my very first attempt of making a Network Packet Capturing tool in .NET i have created similar tools in vb6 using winpcap library. but this time i have created my own library in .NET which can monitor all network traffic. PackMon.NET is a .NET library is inspired by a similar code from http://www.mentalis.org/ their code was a great help for me i have converted some parts exactly the same from C#.Net to VB.Net but most of the code is entirely written by me. please give me Globes if you really like this code. you can use the library and provided sample application that use the library but please do give me credit for the same. This is still a beta version and i thought that together we can make it a really big and powerful project.

Great code man! Exactly what I was looking for. I can't wait to play with the packets themselves (...as soon as my downloads finish).

Great, great code, but I do have one question. How do you access the Raw packet itself. ie. display it in a textbox or something. I've tried the p.toString and messed around with m_packet to no avail...

I am returning to your site after approx. two years and I've created a
new logon and password, however I'm still unable to download ANY files.
Everytime I login I'm directed to a blank page which says "Object Moved Here" and the link takes me back to your page. I can browse from there but I can't download any files.

Help.

heya man, great net watcher you've got there,,, i was just wondering if you could do me(us) a favour(maybe in another submission or something), it would be really cool if you could make a program that can JUST tell us how much we've downloaded, say today, or for the whole month!! Thanks in advance,,, Timothy Coutlakis

This is a two part comment.

You take WAY too much credit for this code. In comparing your Packet class to the Mentalis version, I found your class to be an exact VB port of the original Mentalis C Sharp version, with one exception. You chose to deal with the m_SourceAddress and m_DestinationAddress members as String classes instead of IPAddress classes.

Your Monitor class is another direct port of the Mentalis code, namely the PacketMonitor class. The only difference is that you stripped out all of the security code. But even there you didn't really know what you were doing because you left behind various constants that were used by the removed code, for example, IOC_VENDOR and DOMAIN_ALIAS_RID_ADMINS.

I did not compare the Form classes, but I can only assume that since your application looks and behaves identically to the Mentalis Packet Monitor application, your Form class is also a direct port.

This is a two part comment.

You should be given credit for PORTING someone else's very fine code from C Sharp to VB. But it is WRONG for you to claim or be given credit as the creative force behind any of this code. I am sorry if anyone finds this post disrespectful or offensive, but I find stealing credit from others very offensive. Every honest software developer on the planet should be outraged by such behavior. The people at Mentalis.org are generous enough to share their high quality code for free. We can at least be gracious enough to give them credit for it. The copyright notice at the top of every Mentalis source code file states that due credit is a requirement for use of their code. If it were up to me, your status as "Contest Winner" would be revoked, and you would experience some sort of public reprimand. How the operators of PSC handle this infraction will be a reflection on them as individuals and on PSC as a whole.
