Okay, i liked the response i got on how to remove angelfire banners, so i figured i'd figure out how to remove geocities. well, since geocities put's their ads at the very end of the page, all you have to do is put the following line right after your </html> sign:
<noembed><xmp>
It's that simple. All feedback and votes are greatly appreciated.
to answer Deepak Kumar Shaw's question (which was deleted due to the fact that he entered the tag, which thus screwed up the page of comments from that point down, no allowing any comments to be posted. sorry about that), basically, here is what the tag does. seeing as how most browsers these days have plugins, the NOEMBED tag, pretty much tells it to show the information if there isn't a plugin availible. since there is no accompaning embed tag, there is nothing that should be shown. that tag is really only useful in conjunction with the embed tag. the xmp tag is an obsolete tag that pretty much does about the same as the PRE tag. it shows all text (including tags) as plain text using a monopitch font (basically, all letters are the same width and line up perfectly with the letters directly below them.) If you have any more questions, please post them here. (If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)
sorry, forgot to finish the explaination, basically my combining the two commands, the noembed command pretty much hides all the text that is inserted by the ad generator, and the xmp tag keeps the tags from executing. (If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

Isn't it just as easy to throw a tag at the end of your document? (If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

None of this works on the new Geocities Ad. This ad uses most of my bandwidth just loading the page. When it does open my wav music is garbled. It's messed up my spacing among other things. Is there ANY way to get rid of this new obnoxious Geocities Ad? (If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

This is an OUTDATED version. Yahoo! and Geocities have updated their ad rendering code! I wrote an article on how to remove the new ads (it word as of 27 March 2006). It is located at: http://www.geocities.com/new_no_ads/
