I extracted the program from the zipped file, into its own directory, but when I click on the exe file, it tells me a ocx file is not correctly registered or something to that effect. HOW does one install the program [compiled one] so it will run???

If you have VB6 installed make sure you are using the latest Service Pack version 3 update, free from Microsoft. Other than the standard VB Controls, nothing else was used, so if you are not using VB6 SP3 I am unsure if it will work without you changing some ocx's. I no longer have VB5 or I would have just made it in that so it would have been more widely usable. I would assume though that if you do not have VB6 or SP3 you can just install the VB6 runtimes and it will work just as well with VB5...you can get the VB6 runtimes from most websites...just do a search for VB6 Runtime, if you can't find it I can email it to you if want.

Here's a suggestion to easily distribute your App for users without the VB6 Runtime Dll and OCX controls.

In your Windows Start Menu inside the VB6 Tab, there should be something called VB Tools and we're looking for the Package and Deployment Wizard.
Run the P&D Wizard and you can create a setup.exe for your app. Then when you distribute your app with the setup.exe, the setup.exe will then install all the nrequired dll and ocx controlsr equired to execute your application.

Teco, I know that, I wasn't giving it out as a game for end users, just for developers and beginners, that's why I posted it here.

Looks interesting, but I had to format recently, and can't find my vb disk, so until I can find it I can't see the program. I will keep it around though. The disk will turn up sooner or later.

Ok l get the same problem with the ocx control, (am using version 5 of vb).

When l try and load the source code l get a vb error to do with DebugStartupOption and the project refuses to load. Have already removed the Retained reference from the vbp file.

Jeff, if you want to compile it under VB5 I will assume you will have to at least have the VB6 SP3 Runtimes installed, in which you can D/L from Microsoft at their website. Once you install them and remove that retained reference from the vbp file you should be able to compile, but I don't have VB5 to test that for you...so good luck. Remember, this was written in VB6 SP3 so I am unsure of exactly what you will need to do to get it to work under VB5 but no special VB6 functions were utilized so you shouldn't have a problem once you d/l those VB6 runtimes. Also, you could just remove my references to the VB6 imagelist and so on and rebuild them with the VB5 controls. But you would have to know what pics went into which. I will install VB5 again, I have it somewhere it work and build the project for all you VB5 people...take care.

Hmmm....interesting, l vaguely remember this being posted a year or so back, (maybe it was another version). Took the original, got it to run in vb5, and added animations etc, (dice rolling that sort of thing). Will download this version and have a look.
