     Alternate the caps of a string. E.g. Input "hello there" and it will output "HeLlO ThErE". If you set StartLowerCase to true then if you input "hello there" it will output "hElLo tHeRe" and true if you want "HeLlO ThErE"

I have tried your code but it didn't work, i think it is because you try to define sText as a byval, should it not be declaired publically at the beginning of the form? because when i went to run the function from a button "stringAlternate(sText, True)" then i had the issue of sText not yet being declaired.

This looks a bit like something that has just been spat out of the Visual Basic Upgrade Wizard or something. Try this and see the performance difference (try a long string).

Public Function StringAlternate(ByVal sText As String, ByVal StartLowerCase As Boolean) As String

Dim sbOutput As New StringBuilder
Dim booLower As Boolean = StartLowerCase
For Each character As Char In sText
If booLower Then
sbOutput.Append(Char.ToLower(character))
Else
sbOutput.Append(Char.ToUpper(character))
End If
booLower = Not booLower
Next
Return sbOutput.ToString

End Function
