This is by far the best weather program out there.. Sounds conceited I know. Take a look at the features and you will see what I mean. This isn't one of those enter a zip code and get a few minor details about your weather, type programs - this gives you everything. This gives you a 10 day forecast, graphics to indicate conditions, current conditions, international city weather, US City weather, local US detailed forecast scroller, and weather radar maps for almost all regions of the world. I spent a long time on this. Apparently this program was good enough to spark a few comments from Weather.com telling me that they didn't like me distributing this as it could potentially dramatically decrease the ammount of traffic that passes through their site. It takes on average 10 seconds to retrieve weather information through my program and can take up to 5 minutes just to find what you want on their site. This cuts out the middle man and gives you what you want. Just make sure you're connected to the internet and you're all set. Best of all it's FREE.

Worth The download..

This concept is excellent!
The MOD is no problem (just points to an incorrect location) but in the HideFrm where it does the GetSystemMenu call, everything aborts because "GetSystemMenu" is undefined.

Other than this, good work!

Excellent code! Couple of Win API declarations were missing but easy to
add. Keep it up!

Not a lot of great practical programs on PSC, but there are a few, yours ranks on up there as one of the best on PSC. I took a peek at the code. very impressive. great work

Wow! This is so simple and so practical and WONDERFULLY coded!! Congratulations and keep up the GREAT work!!

By the way, did the Weather channel really start yelling at you? If they did, how did they know to search on Planet Source Code for "Your Weather v4.0"? :)

Have a nice day!

Awesome job on Weather 4.0! 5 globes from me!

Found two little bugs so far, one was the Central America & Caribbean dropdown - will not load the countries. Can you fix that?

The other bug was in LMapfrm (Large Maps) at this line..

ElseIf sel_d = 38 Then

the app tries to download BOTH South Pole Large and Western Hemi Global thereby causing an error. I deleted the "South Pole" reference line to fix the error.

Keep up with the good work Nathan!

Hey Nate.. Not sure if you remember me (Rajan), I saw the picture of you and remember you and I took the MCSE courses together. You finished up before me, but I saw you on here thought I would say hello and vote for this code.

This code is by far the BEST. Out of curiosity, has bill gates called you yet and offered a you a job?
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

12/25/2000 9:18:12 PMNathan

Bill Gates... Nope.. Hehe.. Unfortunately, Weather.com changed up a few things.. I want you guys to know I have fixed these few minor bugs and will be uploading at the first of the month.. Thank aqll of you for the positive comments that inspire me to do this kinda of stuff..

I must admit, a nice program indeed, does it still work when the website layout changes ???

Great job Nathan! I gave you an excellent rating.
This program is so good I'm surprised you didn't
try selling it. Thanks for sharing it with everyone.
My only concern is that when Weather.com changes
the format of their web site it might wreak havoc
on your wonderful application! Keep up the great
work...

I tried to create a weather program myself, but gave up over all the Metar decoding.. I guess using the U.S. Metar report is the only source which will never change. But decoding is really a pain. Well, since this program is far more better from the one I tried, I'll use this one.. Thanks a lot!

While this code is well written and useful, it is no better than the hack of NetZero (elsewhere on PSC by another author) in that it should not be made into a distributed application, but kept as an interesting sideshow.
There are many ways to make software like this without needing to leech weather.com's information. I would suggest setting up software like Hamweather from Hamweather.com, but you need to know perl and have a perl server (which you can get for free). Once someone makes weather software that avoids weather.com and uses either their own weather site or direct info from public sources, then that program will deserve to win!!

I must say im very impressed, though the code is not so good. You have written tons of code, for no reason. You should really get into useing loops etc... Also, name things with extentions you can remember...like txtSomething, frmSomething...

Anyways, you made a really good program. I can understand why the weather website dosnt want to use this, if they ever will want something like this, they would make it them self. But dont get kicked down by that, keep going!

Just popped in again ... wondering if you didn't get my last email/feedback ... anyway, after rereading the feedbacks, I think that you could modify your code to get the graphics from other (public) sources such as weather.gov (warnings and satellite images).

Nathan,
I sent a note but it looks like it didn't transmit. I get the maps but no weather data even after i put in the Zip code. I also got a type mismatch error 13.. The text is grayed out and
i try to load the 0cx files to the components list but only systray gets loaded.

Great looking product and I a must be doing somrthing wrong.

I sure love the effort all you guys are putting out making weather data grabbers, but what I want to know is why no one seems to have ever heard of http://www.hamweather.com . The reason im referancing them is because their scripts get a file from noah weather then parse it & generate their outputs. This is how weather.com gets most their data. What we need is to go to the source rather than second partys. That way we can have live streeming data allmost.
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/1/2002 4:18:25 AMDefault_Browser

Ok I found the old download site for us so we can rip apart the perl scripts & get to the source, you can find that at http://www.hamweather.com/hw2index.html
(If this comment was disrespectful, please report it.)

4/1/2002 4:23:58 AMMe Again !

When the user requests weather information, HAMweather will obtain the text data, as needed, from the National Weather Service (NWS) and the Interactive Weather Information Network (IWIN). The raw data is then parsed, cleaned up and presented to the user. Hope you all enjoy the input & help please let me know when you get this idea of mine to fly, perhapps I will lay a foundation im going to download the demo now & start documenting what all will be needed.
