       Here is a little PL/SQL stored function that returns Y or N to indicate whether or not the IN string is made up of distinct characters. With SQL*Plus test script.

       PL/SQL does not provide a way to readily determine whether or not a string contains only alphabetic characters. Without looping, this PL/SQL stored function will perform the task. With SQL*Plus test script.

       PL/SQL does not provide a way to readily determine whether or not a string contains only digits (0123456789). Any of these three PL/SQL stored functions, without looping, will do the job. With SQL*Plus test script.
